Gov. Schwarzenegger vetos California Industrial Hemp Farming Act!
AB 684 (the California Industrial Hemp Farming Bill) passed the Senate by a vote of 26-13 on September 11th. The Senate changed the bill from a statewide hemp farming bill to a five-year pilot program in four counties — Imperial, Kings, Mendocino and Yolo. The Assembly needed to agree to the amendments that were made in the Senate. This was done on the next day, September 12th, and the vote was 46-29. The bill was sent to the Governor for his signature and was vetoed on October 11th.

Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2007 Introduced in Congress !
For the second time
since the federal government outlawed hemp farming in the United States, a
federal bill has been introduced that would remove restrictions on the
cultivation of non-psychoactive industrial hemp. Read more about this ground breaking bill supported by Democrats and Republicans alike here.
A Car You Can Grow! Eco One is an environmentally-friendly race car with a difference: its shell is made from hemp, the tires made from potatoes and the brake pads made from cashew nut shells. It also runs entirely on bio-fuels and bio-lubricants.
Eco One is getting its first public outing at the Sexy Green Car Show at the Eden Project where, from 30 March to 15 April, it will rub shoulders with green offerings from the biggest names in the motor industry worldwide.

Prospective growers can write or call the department or go online at www.agdepartment.com and click on 'Hot Topics' for an application form,” Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson said Wednesday. Johnson said North Dakota is the first state to license industrial hemp growers.

British company BAE Systems to produce 'environmentally-friendly weaponry'

(The Sunday Herald) BAE Systems, one of the world's biggest arms manufacturers, is designing a new generation of "green" munitions, including "lead-free" bullets and rockets with reduced toxins. It also wants to cut the dangerous compounds in its jets, fighting vehicles and artillery, which it warns "can harm the environment and pose a risk to people"

ATLANTA (Cox News Service) Human-induced climate change is the driving force behind higher ocean temperatures in hurricane spawning regions, scientists from eight major research institutions reported Monday. The findings, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, provide the strongest evidence yet that man-made greenhouse gases are playing a major role in the increase in both the number and intensity of hurricanes (more...).

California farmers are on a high after the liberal state moved to overturn part of a 70-year-old United States ban on growing and harvesting cannabis plants. But those hoping that the so-called Golden State is about to become a marijuana smokers' paradise will be disappointed. The California proposal relates only to the cultivation of industrial hemp, used in the manufacture of items such as cosmetics, food, paper and clothing (more ...).
Hemp Farming Bill Passes California Assembly

SACRAMENTO, CA- California business leaders and
farmers are celebrating today's passage of AB 1147,
which clarifies that the cultivation of industrial
hemp is legal on the condition it contains no more
than three tenths of one percent tetrahydrocannabinol
(THC). AB 1147 passed with a clear majority of 44
votes to 32 against and now goes to the Senate for consideration. Final passage of AB 1147 could revitalize commercial industrial hemp farming, which occurred in the state until shortly after World War II.

Save Red Hill Valley! TREE SITTERS TRY TO SAVE THE ESCARPMENT
At least three people have occupied trees on the face of the Niagara Escarpment, just east of the point where the Red Hill Creek expressway is scheduled to cut an 80-metre wide swath through the face of the escarpment. The Red Hill Valley is designated as an Environmentally Significant Area and over half the valley is part of the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve. The proposed expressway will will clear at least 25% of the valley, will remove over 44,000 trees (latest estimate by the City) and will impact 22 known archaeological sites.Click here to register your protest against the expressway and free the trees!
