We finally made Photocopies on the way to the show, so we had hemp information ammo. Hershey PA, home of Hershey's chocolate and a big tacky theme park revolving around chocolate. We didn't get on Shakedown, but Hemphry was parked in a good spot which was in the first row of cars behind the lawn section of the venue. Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna) was playing when we got there. It was good to hear his voice floating through the air. Light of This World, Just as long as I'm in this world, I am the Light of this world... Phil came on soon after, and there were no miracles... there was one point when I think we could have went in while Phil was playing shakedown I think, but we missed it. A bunch of kids went through a hole in the fence. This pissed off the cops, so then all of a sudden there were horses, and riot cops with big billy clubs and I heard there was one kid who was shot with a rubber bullet. There was tension and a standoff and more cops dressed in camo and people were nervous at first I was like we can't let them push us around like that but then a brother reminded me that it's better to just not feed the confrontational energy, and diffuse the situation. I got the camera in case it got ugly, and took some neat shots. We started inviting kids on shakedown back to the free parking lot lawn seats where you could see the lights and hear the music and dance for free! It turned into a great second set. We handed out parking lot prizes in the form of energy bars and just had fun! Interestingly enough, all the riot gear and horses were no where to be found once the show let out. Heaven forbid all the wonderful people who paid to see the show are greeted with the cold reality that the publicly paid police department is serving and protecting Hershey park's right to do business. That's it for now, we followed Phil's tour down the coast (except for the show at Portsmouth VA, broke down). I'll fill in the details soon.
